WINTER STORM WARNINGS IN EFFECT FROM MAINE SOUTHWARD INTO NORTHERN - TopicsExpress

WINTER STORM WARNINGS IN EFFECT FROM MAINE SOUTHWARD INTO NORTHERN VIRGINIA EXCEPT FOR MOST AREAS EAST OF I-95. WINTER STORM GETTING UNDERWAY IN THE NEW YORK NEW JERSEY PA, AND CT. INLAND..SNOW DEVELOPING DURING THE MORNING AND BECOMING HEAVY AT TIMES. SNOW WILL FALL AT 1 TO 2 INCH AN HOUR RATES LATER THIS MORNING INTO THIS AFTERNOON. ALONG THE COAST RAIN OR MIXED PRECIPITATION WILL BE THE RULE FOR AWHILE UNTIL LATE IN THE DAY WHEN PRECIP MAY CHANGE OVER TO SNOW THIS EVENING AND THEN END AROUND OR JUST AFTER MIDNIGHT FROM WEST TO EAST. Very difficult forecast to say the least especially for coastal areas where some of the new ultra short range models seem to be focusing on colder air becoming more important. I began to see this last night on the HRRR model which has it significantly colder that some of the other models we use. Inland just north and west of I-95 it is a matter of how heavy the precipitation gets later this morning and this afternoon. Certainly snow at 1 to 2 inches an hour wont be uncommon. And it will be a heavy wet snow indeed. WINTER STORM WARNINGS are up for a large portion of the northeast from Maine to Northern Virginia except along the coast. These snowfall accumulation maps should guide you if you are driving into these areas. Travel will be easier this morning but conditions will deteriorate rapidly so if you are headed into these areas by car and you are not on the road early this morning, you will be dealing with difficult conditions. Should you leave later in the day for these areas you travel will be hazardous and it may take you a long long time to get to your destination.
