Showers becoming more frequent and possibly heavier for a time later this morning and into this afternoon from the south. Showers are likely to turn to rain in many areas for a time. Snow may lower to 300m (in isolated areas) in heavier bursts. Cold southwest winds. KAIKOURA / NORTH CANTERBURY Temperature High: 8 degrees (Kai) 7 (North Cant) Overnight Low: 5 degrees (Kai) 3 (North Cant) Wind Direction: SW Rainfall: 5-10mm Details: Few light showers at first about the Kaikoura Coast. Then often cloudy with a few fine spells possible. Still the chance of the odd shower. Showers becoming more frequent late this evening. For North Canterbury, the odd shower at times, becoming more frequent and turning to rain for a time late afternoon or early evening. Cold Southwest breezes. CHRISTCHURCH Temperature High: 7 degrees Overnight Low: 3 degrees Wind Direction: Southwest Rainfall: 10-15mm Details: Occasional showers developing this morning, becoming more frequent towards noon where showers are likely to turn to rain. The chance of one or two heavy falls. Snow above 400m, briefly dropping to 300m later. Cold southwest breeze at times. BANKS PENINSULA Temperature High: 6 degrees Overnight Low: 2 degree Wind Direction: Southwest Rainfall: 15-20mm Details: Showers this morning, some may be heavy. Rain developing by noon, chance briefly heavy. Southwesters, strong about the tops. Snow above 400m, and possibly dropping as low as 300m in heavier falls. SOUTH + MID CANTERBURY Temperature High: 7 degrees Overnight Low: 3 degrees Wind Direction: Southwest Rainfall: 10-15mm Details: Showers, becoming heavier and more frequent for a time. A period of rain developing around noon or just after. Cold light southwest breeze.
