WIRELESS POWER TRANSMISSION IN PUBLIC TRANSPORTATION Wireless - TopicsExpress

WIRELESS POWER TRANSMISSION IN PUBLIC TRANSPORTATION Wireless Power Transmission is a means by which large amounts of electrical energy may be transmitted through the atmosphere from a power source in one location to a receiver and consumer of electric power at another location. This electric power transfer is accomplished without wires by using microwaves to transfer the energy cleanly, safely, silently, securely and unobtrusively. Although this technology has been around for many years, especially for use in space applications, PARISE RESEARCH TECHNOLOGIES plans on bringing it to fruition in a unique terrestrial application over the next several years to power remote electric energy-consuming devices. Although these devices can be one of many portable electronic products utilized today (laptops, cell phones, ipods, PDAs, lawnmowers, etc.), the primary focus initially will be on electric vehicles, and in particular vehicles for public transportation. These vehicles will have the same range, power, mobility and maneuverability that diesel and gasoline powered vehicles currently have, but will be all-electric non-polluting and one day be coupled with a renewable electrical energy source. These all-electric vehicles will have the following advantages over present-day systems: Replace Existing Bus/Trolley System Allow for Renewable Energy Source Provide Clean, All-Electric Transportation Reduce Required Infrastructure Eliminate Overhead Power Lines and Cables Integrate into Existing System Complete Transit Power System will have ZERO Carbon Footprint Transition from Petrol to All-Electric A brief summary of the technology may be reviewed here. A quick viewing of one of the technical papers titled, “ Future all- electric transportation communication and recharging via wireless power beam” , (SPIE Paper No. 4214-22), will also provide a good overview and presentation of the technology. Below is a pictorial presentation of the many uses and advantages of using this technology in this newly patented application. The first pictorial illustrates the operation of the system as a vehicle travels along the road way and is powered or recharged by adjacent power poles while traveling through a busy intersection. Whether a private vehicle as shown, a rubber-tire public transit vehicle on the roadway, or a steel- tire on rail public trolley, the wireless power system will function in the same way.
