WISDOM FOR TODAY Then these men said, “We shall not find any charge against this Daniel unless we find it against him concerning the law of his God.” 6 So these governors and satraps thronged before the king, and said thus to him: “King Darius, live forever! 7 All the governors of the kingdom, the administrators and satraps, the counselors and advisors, have consulted together to establish a royal statute and to make a firm decree, that whoever petitions any god or man for thirty days, except you, O king, shall be cast into the den of lions. 8 Now, O king, establish the decree and sign the writing, so that it cannot be changed, according to the law of the Medes and Persians, which does not alter.” 9 Therefore King Darius signed the written decree DANIEL 6: 5-9 And he said, “I have been very zealous for the LORD God of hosts; because the children of Israel have forsaken Your covenant, torn down Your altars, and killed Your prophets with the sword. I alone am left; and they seek to take my life.” 15 Then the LORD said to him: “Go, return on your way to the Wilderness of Damascus; and when you arrive, anoint Hazael as king over Syria. 16 Also you shall anoint Jehu the son of Nimshi as king over Israel. And Elisha the son of Shaphat of Abel Meholah you shall anoint as prophet in your place. 17 It shall be that whoever escapes the sword of Hazael, Jehu will kill; and whoever escapes the sword of Jehu, Elisha will kill. 18 Yet I have reserved seven thousand in Israel, all whose knees have not bowed to Baal, and every mouth that has not kissed him.” 1 KING 19:14-18 OBSERVATIONS 1. Conference is a form of meeting for consultation, exchange of information, or discussion, especially one with a formal agenda. 2. Conference helps to initiate action, identify hindrances, plan strategy and ensure effective execution. 3. E.g. Beijing women conference of 1995 was held to ensure equality for women in development and peace. 4. In 1968, conference was started on the control of the proliferation of nuclear weapon. 5. In Nigeria, various conferences has been held. E.g. conference was held to ensure the effective ‘tapping’ of the girl child from age 13. Action is now on. 6. Conference is not always held on public issues only. 7. Conference can be targeted on an individual using public platform. Daniel 6 : 5-7 8. Conference can be held anywhere, in office, restaurant, bed room, cave, clubs, etc. 9. The extent of execution of conference decisions depends so much on the status of the conferees. 10. The executioner of the decisions may not be involved in the conference.1 King 19: 15-17 11. The conferees may be the real victim/beneficiary of their conference decisions. 12. God can hold conference too. 13. Conference can be held on you. NOTE 14. When the governors and satrap held conference against Daniel, they ended up in the bellies of the lions and Daniel was promoted. ( Daniel 6:24 -28) 15. When God held conference against Jezebel, the dogs feasted on her blood. (2 King 9:30-37). Man may hold conference to demote, stagnate, kill or promote you.
