HISTÓRIA Na idade antiga, o roxo foi símbolo de riqueza, pois derivava de um molusco do mar mediterrâneo, o púrpura haemostoma(em inglês Tyrian purple) que deu origem ao nome da cor. Esse molusco chegava a custar mais do que o ouro em algumas regiões e por isso o pigmento custava muito caro, só os nobres o conseguiam. Ele foi sem dúvida o corante mais caro da história. É um dos pigmentos mais antigos já registrados. Foi usado por Alexandre o Grande nas audiências como senhor do Império macedonio, por reis do Egito antigo e até por Cleópatra Os Senadores romanos usavam esta cor em suas vests. HISTORY In old age, the purple was a symbol of wealth, as derived from a shellfish of the Mediterranean Sea, purple haemostoma (English Tyrian purple) giving rise to color name. This snail came to cost more than gold in some areas and so the PIGMENT was so expensive, only the nobles could AFFORD IT. It was undoubtedly the most expensive PIGMENT of the story. It is one of the oldest pigments already registered.
