WOBBLY START: KARACHI ‘OPERATION’ THE much-talked about Rangers-led Karachi ‘operation’ seems to have begun in earnest, with the paramilitaries carrying out a number of raids. But it was the arrest of a former MQM provincial lawmaker on Tuesday on murder charges that made the most waves. The metropolis was shut down on Wednesday in reaction to the politician’s arrest. This is a questionable start to a law-enforcement exercise that is meant to bring peace. It is necessary that there must be no rush to act and state action must be thought through. It should not be a political witch-hunt. But already the MQM is talking about victimization.
