WORD FOR TODAY November 2, 2014, from my new book #BEMORE: 77 Secrets To Your Powerful Life. SECRET #37: BE A CHAMPION. Are you always feeling behind? Do you feel you are always in catch up mode? Your concern should not be in catching up, but being faithful where you are. Catching Up is a term we use in many aspects of life-- in running a race, in our work, in our sleep. But we never realistically catch up. We just adjust expectations to a new timeline, a new goal, a new state of mind. Stop stressing and worrying. Stop competing with yourself or others. Stop competing with some arbitrary finish line. Just do your best. Ask yourself daily, Am I really doing my best? If the answer is yes, then be at peace and keep moving forward. This is how a champion is made! I recite this credo when I am tempted to get stressed over getting behind: I take full responsibility for my rising and falling. I dont beat myself up, nor do I beat up others. When I make decisions, I live with the results and dont play a victim. With the power that is in me I seek, above all things, wisdom and discernment. I fly high and sometimes I crash, but the total race is the goal, not just one stage. I know when to push and I know when to pull back. I give it my all and I love others even when they dont. I am a champion! My most powerful words are: I did great and Ill do better next time! A champion is far less concerned with whether or not they lose or win every time, and more concerned with doing things with excellence. Whether they are always on top of the leaderboard or come in last place, the true mark of a champion is one who takes on each challenge with the singular goal of doing it to the best of their ability. We all will fail. We all will miss the mark on occasion. Thats okay. It isnt ordained that we will win every race, receive every top award, and defeat everyone who challenges us. No one is that perfect. It is more important to be sure that each time you step onto the field that you have done what you needed to do to be prepared, that you have given this task all your focus, and that you are giving it all youve got.
