WORLD CUP TRIVIA: It’s 13 days to go…in our trivia this morning , we look at the fastest goal ever; Turkeys captain Hakan Sukur pounced on a defensive error to score after just 11 seconds against co-hosts South Korea in the 2002 third-fourth play-off, the fastest goal in World Cup history. It beat the previous record of 16 seconds set by Czechoslovakias Vaclav Masek in 1962. Later in the afternoon, we’ll look at the first ever Golden goal. HERE ARE OTHER FACTS YOU NEED TO KNOW ABOUT THE WORLD CUP; Each World Cup has an official instrument and 2014’s is called the caxirola. Brazilian musician Carlinhos Brown created the caxirola which has been labeled a better alternative to the unpopular vuvuzelas of the 2010 World Cup in South Africa. The caxirola emits a sound similar to a rattle. After a series of controversial calls made in the Premier League, World Cup 2010 and Euro 2012, FIFA announced it would be installing goal-line technology in all 12 of Brazil’s world cup stadiums. According to FIFA, goal-line technology will be used to determine whether or not the entire ball has crossed over the goal line in a match. Referees will wear watches that indicate whether the ball has crossed the entire goal line in order to make up for what the human eye can’t see. officials at FIFA have selected the German company GoalControl (GmbH) as the goal-line technology provider for this year’s World Cup. OTHER NEWS; Arsene Wenger refused to rush Jack Wilshere back from injury because he wanted to ensure the midfielder was fit for Englands World Cup campaign. Wilshere says Wenger, who has been critical of aspects of international football in the past, was prepared to sacrifice short-term impact at Arsenal to boost the national team. That injury was the latest in a series of setbacks for Wilshere, so the 22-year-old was happy to take the advice from his experienced manager.
