WORSHIP SONG for MONDAY - In the New Testament Gospel of Matthew, there are many references to the Jewish Old Testament and there are a few of such references when he wrote about the birth of Jesus Christ. Matthew quotes the Old Testament Prophet Isaiah when he states.... Behold, the virgin shall conceive and bear a son, and they shall call his name Immanuel” (which means, God with us). When you do a word study of this word, Immanuel the depth of meaning adds to the amazing truth given here. The end of the word, the el is short for Elohim which is commonly translated God in the Old Testament. Its used over 2000 times and the word means, Strong Creator. Genesis 1:1 - In the beginning God (Elohim) created the heavens and the earth. Dozens of times in the early part of the the Book of Genesis story we read of the declarations and creations of Elohim because the story of the Bible is HIS-Story! The first part of the word Immanuel or the Immanu part means to come to be with and thats why both Matthew and Isaiah tell us that Immanuel means GOD WITH US. Now all that Ive just written sounds pretty academic but thats not the real point - to just do a word study. The real point is the Truth of the verse and the Truth of the verse ought to cause wonder and amazement to rise up in our hearts! Imagine this...that the CREATOR, God Almighty, Maker of all that is, imagine that this One was conceived in the womb of a virgin and born in Bethlehem on that first Christmas. No wonder the heavens exploded in celebration and no wonder the world has never been the same. The Creator God, Elohim had done the unthinkable, He had become human! God with us! God one of us! God revealing Himself to us in the most miraculous of ways. Presents, Christmas trees, decorations, parties really cant compare to the real Truth of Christmas! A date on the calendar doesnt matter and whether someone says Happy Holidays or Merry Christmas recedes into the background because when we dwell on Emmanuel, God with us the real Truth of Christmas outshines it all!
