WORSHIP SONG for THURSDAY - I dedicate this worship song to a young friend who passed into eternity just a few days ago. Today we celebrate his life on earth, remembering him as a son, grandson, brother, brother in law, uncle, cousin and friend. I knew him all of his 24 years and to the best of my ability to know, knew of his faith in Jesus Christ. Like all of us who follow Jesus, he wasnt perfect but he was forgiven, for he had come to know the Lord as personal Savior and had trusted in what Jesus did on the cross for him over 2000 years ago. Knowing Christ involves knowing our own selves as well because we must understand our need for forgiveness as well as the Lords desire and ability to forgive us. As Christians we believe in living the most honoring life we can on earth but realize that no matter how well we do or dont do, this life is temporary at best and entrance into heaven is by faith and not by works. Because of this faith, we have something that the Bible calls hope and this hope carries us all the way into the very presence of God. This hope is not the human sense of hoping for the possibility of something but a definite and sure HOPE that keeps us secure and comforted. The writer of the New Testament book of Hebrews put it this way....this HOPE, we have, sure and steadfast is an anchor for souls. We know that when we leave this life, at any age or because of any circumstance, that we will find ourselves in the presence of the Lord. The Apostle Paul expressed it this way....absent from the body, present with the Lord. The destiny of my young friend is settled and I have the hope that the Bible speaks of, believing that I will see him again someday. But how about you? Where is your hope? In your religion? Your good works? Your sincerity of belief? None of these will meet Gods standard for it is by faith and faith alone - and faith in JESUS CHRIST as Savior and Lord. The necessary forgiveness comes when the necessary faith is placed in the only place it will do us good, in the Person of Christ, the One Who loved us enough to die the death we deserved. And when that transaction takes place, the HOPE I speak of today can be yours as well.
