Today at 12:55 p.m., the President of the United States will mention Greenfield Community College in his speech, announcing more than 300 private and public sector commitments to create jobs and cut carbon pollution by advancing solar deployment and energy efficiency and will Watch it on CSPAN2 or at whitehouse.gov/live Greenfield Community College President Robert L. Pura is pleased that the college will be acknowledged on this national stage. We are of course honored by President Obamas recognition of GCC’s Renewable Energy/Energy Efficiency program. We have long known of the quality of that program, the impact it has on the lives of our students, and so too the community,” said Dr. Pura. “I am personally thrilled for and proud of the very fine educators who have developed and now sustain that program. Teresa Jones, Brain Adams, Peter Talmage, Mike Kocsmiersky, Christine Copeland, Peter Rosnick and Mary Ellen Fydenkevez, along with the many students involved are local heroes who now have been recognized for the day to day passion they bring to their students, their field of study, the college and the community we serve. Their work is helping to build a more socially and environmentally just planet.” The college was notified this morning by the Office of Congressman James McGovern that President Obama would be including the reference to Greenfield Community College in his speech. “This national report recognizes what we have all known locally for years: Greenfield Community College’s renewable energy curriculum is providing our community with a world class education focusing on the technology of the future,” said U.S. Representative Jim McGovern. “I am extremely proud that GCC was recognized as one of six community colleges nationwide for their efforts to train a skilled workforce that will support the growth of solar deployment across the Commonwealth and the country.”
