WOW! WHAT A DAY! First and foremost, NEVER FORGET! Thousands of Americans lost there lives on this day in 1941 in what would be the first military action of World War 2 for the United States. This war that would eventually cost millions their lives awoke the world to a horror we had never known in the past and hopefully, due to the sacrifices of the heroes who stood victorious, will never know again. NOW! Today I participated in my first official powerlifting meet; the USAPL Texas Regional Championship! To any of my friends who are serious about strength and weightlifting I highly recommend just taking the leap, signing up for a competition and getting after it, its is NOT an experience you will forget! My goals going into this event were not to win or set a record but establish new PRs, not bomb out and set an official competition total and I fully accomplished that goal! Officially my squat was 435, bench was 308 and my deadlift was 490. However, I nailed a 459.5 pound squat and got a red light for racking early; Im counting it in my unnoficial total for a huge 30 pound squat PR! I also missed a 501.5 pound deadlift by about 2 seconds because my grip slipped after I locked it out. All in all it was an amazing experience and I look forward to competing again in the future. However, my New Years goals are going to be to cut my body weight down to at least 175 (sadly the Navy doesnt carry what my PL total is!), break 500 on my squat, hit 550 on my deadlift and 350 on my bench giving me a 1400 pound/636.5 kg raw total in the 181 class! My current official total is 560 kg/1232 pounds and my unnoficial is 571.8 kg/1258 pounds; pretty good numbers for my first comp! Lastly, I want to put out a HUGE thank you to my amazing, beautiful, pregnant wife who selflessly sat on a bleacher bench for nearly 8 hours to support me and who has been beyond understanding of my time in the gym especially over the past 2 months! Thank you so much my darling wife Becka Smith, I could not have been this successfully without your unwavering support, I love you!
