WOW! What a day of mixed emotions. With our wonderful 16s girls fighting so hard to overcome the desperate Spartans and only just falling short and our fantastic reserve grade girls playing their hearts (and every part of their bodies) out against a determined Sydney Uni and coming out eventual victors. The common emotion that came to my mind from 11.20am – 4pm (it was a very long 2 games) was one of absolute pride. Pride for Manly United, pride for our parents and supporters, pride for our coaches but most of all pride for our girls who performed so well today and represented themselves and all associated with MUFC so professionally in both victory and loss. We cannot take anything away from the 16s who have had an amazing season, tying up the minor premiership 4 weeks before the end of the season proper. But we all know that GFs invariably don’t go the way they are expected to go. There is no way of measuring desperation, hunger and determination and the Spartans certainly wanted that game. Congratulations to Tom, Alyssa and the girls – Minor Premiers and Runner-up Champions! The Reserve Grade girls were outstanding today. By the time they kicked off, the conditions were very warm at Blacktown. Only 15 minutes in and the girls were running to the sideline to grab drinks when they could. Fast forward to extra time and some of them could hardly walk let alone run. And then out of nowhere, they would get a spurt of energy and they would be back in the game. Outstanding mental strength! The penalty shoot-out was, as usual, nerve wracking but the girls once again rose to the challenge (scoring all 5) and GK Rocky saving one and the rest is history! Congrats to Gwynne , Chris and the girls. A wonderful day for MUFC as even being in a GF is an honour, let alone winning. Special thanks to those who made the trip to support us. A very proud Shaz
