WPD Investigating Truck and Motorcycle Accident on Route 20 Worcester, MA (April 28, 2014) - On Sunday, April 27, 2014 at approximately 4:27 PM, The Worcester Police Accident Reconstruction Unit was called to the scene of a six wheel construction vehicle and a motorcycle accident at 177 Southwest Cutoff (Route 20). Officers at the scene observed the truck, a 2005 Chevrolet, in the eastbound lane in front of 177 Southwest Cutoff. The truck had minor damage to the driver’s side rear bumper. A 1984 Harley Davidson was observed lying on the left side in the middle of the eastbound travel lane. The motorcycle received extensive front end damage. The 51-year-old motorcycle driver received several broken bones and was treated by Worcester EMS. He was transported to U-Mass Medical Center (university campus) where he is in serious but stable condition. The 24-year-old driver of the truck was uninjured. The preliminary investigation reveals that the motorcycle was traveling east on Southwest Cutoff when the Chevy truck pulled out of Bee Zee gas station located at 177 Southwest Cutoff after getting fuel. The truck entered the eastbound travel lane. Shortly after entering the east bound lane the truck was struck from behind by the motorcycle. A commercial vehicle inspection was conducted at the scene and the truck was taken out of service and cited for having a defective parking brake and for not having a fire extinguisher. The truck was towed from the crash site. This investigation is ongoing with no other citations issued at this time.
