WRINKLED WISDOM.............hindsight................. Rare occasion, but last night Beth & I arrived in her driveway at the same time. Exited from our travelling machines and I hear........BETH: Mom, I didnt want tell you at work....I heard from the sisters this morning....dad kinda had an accident. ME: WHAT? BETH: Mom, dont get upset....hes OK....you might give him a call. ME: Beth, just come out with it. What happened? Your dad wont give me details. BETH: Wellllll, he was on the lawn tractor...misjudged the width of a space....he and the tractor tumbled over that stone wall. ME: Heavens to Miss Mergatroid! Sooooooo, I phoned home just like E.T to hear........HUSBAND: Joyce, the blade was NOT on and Im OK.....I have seven staples in the top of my head.....went in and took a shower....put paper towels on top my head to catch the blood.....put ball cap over that to hold the towels in place....drove myself to the hospital. ME: Heavens to Betsy! Did your brains fall out? HUSBAND: (laughing) NO, they didnt fall out. Hospital did X-rays ... Im fine! There is no need for you to rush home. Everything is under control. Go on and stay until Tuesday morning as you had planned. No need to bring all your STUFF home...return yourself and STUFF back to Lynchburg on Sunday...work Monday to train new person. ME: Are you sure? HUSBAND: Yes, Im fine.....the other two daughters are checking on me...ing for dinner, etc. Im fine....I dont ache....staples dont hurt....hospital wanted to give me something for pain....I told them no Id just take Tylenol.....Im working the Shepherds Table tomorrow washing dishes.....Im fine! ME: Husband and I reflected on hindsight/what could have happened! It could have been so much worse or fatal! Wouldnt it be great if we each gave thought to our actions before putting them into first gear and taking off in all directions? Hindsight is a good thing, but it is like putting the cart (lawn tractor) before the horse........too late then to put things into reverse/perspective! Think maybe HE bonks us side our heads when we become lackadaisical......just as a reminder to think our lives/actions through! What do you think? -Joyce- 25 July 2014
