WRITER/COMMUNITY MANAGER We are a non profit formed to respond to the respond to the large number of people who have attended a screening of the documentary “Race to Nowhere” and are seeking a means to address the health and educational issues raised by the film. Our organization’s focus is on the health and well-being of children and the transformation of education. We seek a highly motivated individual with a passion for writing and driving cause-oriented outreach campaigns. The ideal candidate will have strong communication skills and experience in grassroots communication. She/he must show potential to be an outstanding representative of our work. Must be comfortable working within a collaborative work environment. Must be well versed in how to proactively and effectively communicate social issues. Responsibilities: • Create and implement our communications strategy. • Create and oversee all written communications relating to the campaign including newsletters, blogs, website content, and updates. • Research, write and develop written materials including articles, op-eds, blogs, case studies, tool kits and other resources to support our network of communities working to transform education. • Be responsible for maintaining a consistent message regarding the social action campaigns. • Develop the outreach and advocacy strategy for the campaigns. • Develop and maintain relationships with individuals, schools, universities and other organizations working in education and health. • Be responsible for website content development. • Be responsible for seeking grants and support to advance the cause. • Keep up on current research and political happenings in the areas we work. • Communicate with and develop relationships with a nationwide network of local, state and federal stakeholders including organizations, government agencies, policy makers and community leaders. Our Ideal candidate would have the following qualifications: • A bachelor’s degree and a minimum of three years relevant work experience. Experience with communications, journalism, social advocacy organizations, campaigns, and/or nonprofit work preferred. • A degree in education or journalism with an advanced degree preferred • 3-5 years writing/outreach /advocacy/campaign experience • A lively, clear, engaging writing voice • A background in education and/or health and passion for our cause • Experience in policy and legislative activities • Grant writing experience • Experience with growing and maintaining a lively social media network • Strong computer skills – Microsoft office including excel, PowerPoint, word, Salesforce or other CRM. MAC experience required. • Proficient with an active presence on social media outlets including Twitter. • Knowledge of Photoshop, Illustrator, HTML, InDesign, CMS such as WordPress and Drupal, a plus. • Editing experience using Final Cut Pro a plus. • Broad knowledge and interest in the issues connected to education, child development, health and current culture strongly preferred. • Excellent communication skills • Ability to thrive and multi-task in a fast-paced, rapid growth environment • Strong sense of urgency and responsiveness • A passion for our cause Compensation: Commensurate with experience.
