WRITERS MEETING Fellow Class Members and Writers, The Southern California Writers Association invites any interested members of Raymond’s class of writers to our monthly meeting this Saturday morning at 10 AM, as our student guest, we are happy to host you. The meeting includes hearing a great writer and also enjoying a great meal with Orange County writers. We have a fantastic speaker, DP Lyle, who in addition to having written many books, including the Samantha Cody and Dub Walker thriller series, has won many awards, and is an expert on “character motivation.” He is an amazing man, who has worked with tv shows from “House” to “Royal Pains” to “CSI:Miami,” and more, and you can read his info below. He is also a cardiologist and heart specialist and works with many police departments on forensic issues. Additionally, he hosts a radio show on SUSPENSE network. As a first time visitor, we host your meal, and you will make contact with many writers, most are published, from all fields, and in addition to a great meal and great information, you can make great contacts. Several of your class members are members. If you are interested in coming, please let me know by Thursday if possible. My email is: lorenzo212@yahoo, and my phone is 714 580-5072. He will speak first on The Psychology of Character Motivation: Understanding the Whys of Character Thought, Action, and Dialog, and also allow time for a lively forensic Q&A session. The strength of every story, regardless of genre, lies in the characters that populate the fictional landscape. Developing full, realistic, and believable characters requires an understanding of the psychological drives that push them to act and react. Why do people love, hate, envy, loath, and need one another? Why do they steal, cheat, batter, and kill? Why do they argue, lie, deceive, threaten, and comfort? The session will begin with a discussion of the basic psychology that drives character behavior and move to the forces behind conflict and conflict resolution---the driving force behind thought, action, and dialog. We will look at the conflict-driven character arc of famous protagonists and antagonists. It should be a great morning! Hope you can come.
