WRITERS WANTED: Scholarship Opportunity in Morro Bay for Writer – October 1 Deadline (Please share!) Writer, editor and teacher Tobey Crockett PhD is offering a full six month scholarship to one writer this fall and winter. As part of the launch for her new writers group in Morro Bay, Crockett wants to extend this opportunity to a low income writer who would otherwise be unable to attend the group. “I have been the beneficiary of so much largesse when it comes to my own education, I really want to pay it forward,” says Crockett. A professional writer for over twenty five years, with more than 125 articles, essays, reviews, book chapters and several ghost written books under her belt, Crockett is married to the fiction and screenplay writer Mark Onspaugh. Crockett is one of the select group now showcasing their various offerings at the new Main Street location for the Ruby Dragon owned by Penny Harrington. “I spend my life reading, writing and drinking in books and ideas,” says Crockett. “It’s a great way to live and with all the opportunities in today’s digital marketplace, it’s a wonderful time to be a writer. I love to teach and have been looking for a forum to offer these classes on an ongoing basis for a few years now.” The writers group starts on October 2nd, and meets on every Thursday of the month in the evening. Running two and a half hours, writers will receive instruction and guidance on the finer points of grammar, style and analysis at the start of the class before reading pages and receiving constructive critiques from Crockett and the members of the group. “For writers who want to make progress, this will be a great opportunity to sink their teeth into something substantial. Fiction, nonfiction, memoirs, short stories – all these will be explored by the group. Writers can always learn from one another. Beginners with commitment are certainly welcome to learn and hone their craft with us, but the overall intention here is to complete projects and bring these words out into the public.” Scholarship applications are due by October 1st.
