WTF??? Negro Travellers Green Book (Esso Oil Company, a Standard Oil division) Wanda Charlotte Mundy Theyve also got a copy of the Spring 1956 edition of the Negro Travelers Green Book. These were road guides for African Americans looking to take a drive out west on Route 66. White Americans could pack up their car, turn on the radio and go go go. Black Americans could do the same -- AFTER they made sure they had a copy of this essential little guidebook. A book they had to carry, which showed them where they could pull over and eat, or rest, or just go to the bathroom without threat of violence or death. The Negro Travelers Green Book was published until the summer of 1964. Thats when the last edition came out.
