"WW 2, Vietnam War and Oliver Stone" I wrote a short story about Oliver Stone, a prominent movie director in the U.S, as it may be related to Japanese nuclear issues. Oliver Stone was born in NYC in 1946. His dad is a Jewish stock broker and mum is french Catholic. He went to the prestigious Yale University. However, he dropped out of the school since it was too boring after finishing his freshman year. He then volunteered to Vietnam War. He chose an airborne troops that has high death rate. Then, he encountered unreported truth of the war,,, US soldiers are sometimes killing each other, raping local women,,, Things would be happen under the conditions of war where people may lose sense of humanity. Such things that Germany did to Jew during the world war 2 and Japan did to some Asian countries,,,,. When he came back to the US, at the moment he kissed the land of the LA airport, he promised himself that he will report the reality of the Vietnam War. although he tried to produce a movie about the war, he encountered a lot of hardships. He did not have sponsor, could not finish writing the scenario,,,,, He had to work as a taxi driver to make his living for many years. But, he did not give up. He finally completed the Platoon in 1984. The main character of the move is Oliver Stone himself. Also, the names of all characters in the movies are real name of soldiers who fought together with Stone at the Vietnam. Movie critic initially said, “this is too realistic so not for ordinary viewers” However, The movie became the great abreaction (release of repressed emotion) of stored injustice and repression that he (perhaps many poeople) has accumulated. The movie, Platoon won Academy Award in 1986 and was nominated as the most powerful movie in the year. ,,, Let us go back to the end of WW2. United States Army Air Forces dropped an atomic bomb on Hiroshima in Japan at 8:15 a.m. on August 6, 1945, near the end of World War II. Few days ago, Oliver Stone visited Hiroshima. It was the day, August 6th. "After visiting the Peace Museum in the Japanese city, Stone confessed that he believed at the time that the dropping of the atomic bomb on Hiroshima -- and three days later on Nagasaki -- was justified. Now, he said, his opinion is just the opposite: "The justification for the atomic bombs was just a myth." His message is very clear. This clarity of vision and message is something we may need as Japanese.
