Waihi District Primary SchoolsCross Country 2014 Six primary schools from the Waihi/Waihi Beach District took part in the annual Waihi District Primary Schools Cross Country event on Wednesday 28th May at Morgan Park in Waihi. Competitors from year one to six raced in their gender and year group categories. The races were held in the afternoon in sunny still conditions with a largely dry running track. Ideal running conditions and enthusiastic support of families, fellow students and teachers assisted the runners as they gave their all in their events. The courses ranged in distance from 400 metres for year one and two students up to 2.2 kilometers in the year six category. Check out the photo slideshow below of the event, Zane H a year 6 East School student took the pics, kia ora Zane. All runners gaining a top seven placing in their category were given a certificate, the year four to six runners in the top seven of their race category are eligible to go further and compete at the Northern Cluster Cross Country. The Northern Cluster event (which includes schools from the northern side of Tauranga all the way up to Waihi) is to be held at Whakamarama School on Tuesday 10th June. The Waihi Districts Cross Country Team will be managed by Waihi Beach School teacher Lee Palmer at the Northern Cluster event. Special thanks go to Steven Clarke (Hauraki District Council) for helping us with access and resources at Morgan Park, to Newmont Waihi Gold for assistance with using the Waihi Walkway at the base of Union Hill. Thank you also to the Waihi Soccer Club for allowing us to use their club house for a power source for our sound system and to all of our parent helpers who directed the runners around their courses.
