Wait for the Details “Howbeit when he, the Spirit of truth, is come, he will guide you into all truth: for he shall not speak of himself; but whatsoever he shall hear, that shall he speak: and he will shew you things to come.” John 16:13 One function of the Holy Spirit is to show us things to come. To “show” means to announce in detail. God is not the author of confusion. He will give you specific instructions about your marriage, your children, your finances, and about His purpose for your life. He will show you by His Spirit what to do, but you have to set or position yourself to seek Him. Don’t make the mistake of obeying the first thing you hear–wait for the details. You could be praying and hear God say, “Africa”. You then go and buy a one-way ticket to Africa, not knowing that God wanted you to send money to missionaries in Africa, not go there. God doesn’t want you confused and making quick decisions. He wants you to know specifically what He is telling you to do. I have been at church and God has spoken to me through my pastor. I have been at a women’s conference with an auditorium filled with thousands, and God spoke a specific word to me that showed me what to do about a situation. When I pray with my husband, God uses him to speak into my life, as well as friends. Most importantly, He has spoken to me in my personal time with Him and throughout the day. When you focus on getting wisdom from God, He will give you the details you need. Prayer: Lord God I desperately need to hear from You. I need to know what You want me to do, even if You want me to do nothing but stand. I ask that You give me detailed instructions, and I will obey. Help me not to make hearing from You complicated.
