St. Peter’s, regarded as the “mother church of Staten Island,” is the oldest Catholic parish in the borough and a fixture in the New Brighton community. Father Michael Cichon is the current administrator of St. Peter’s. Msgr. James Dorney, the parish’s longtime pastor and co-vicar of Staten Island, retired last summer. The parish is home to St. Peter’s Boys’ High School. St. Peter-St. Paul Elementary School also serves the parish.
