Waking up in our hotel Chellah in Tangier,I decided to go to the streets to see the early birds waking up from their street accommodation, laying just on a dirty piece of cardboard. I was going to let go of my dirhams, forbidden to be taken out of the country. Giving moneys to the poor is one of the five pillars of Islam. ..and I guess a number of other religions as well. So there I was. Standing above those less fortunate who were looking up to see what good was coming from above and when the coins came down, it was like manna from heaven. It did not take long to dispose of my monetary excess.Some receivers assured me that Allah was great and I agreed.Nothing worse than an argument early in the morning. The taxi pick up to get us to the airport, was late and we panicked.Late would mean missing planes and no refund to follow. We were told not to worry.Very good idea.In the end we got fed up and demanded to be taken to the airport. Thank goodness someone turned up, telling us that the other driver had slept in and he was a stand in. Well we thought as long as this one has a license to drive who cares. As we were in a hurry,I made a deal with the driver by letting him know when the lights turned red.If he did not hear from me, it was steaming ahead. Nieke had chickens by now.Well we made it and were airborne before we knew it, laying comfortable in the luxurious (?) chairs Iberia Airways provides for people who are so tired of everything that anything that is raised and could be used as a seat would suffice. When we finally arrived in Rome, and made our way to the exit with suitcases which had not withstood the flight as well as we did, totally crushed ,wheels blocked, frame broken, a storm broke lose.Pelting rain, flashes of light and gusty winds helped us along to the next taxi available. The driver did not speak English but somehow by the grace of Allah we ended up at Max. place. Well this is to be continued, if you like. Take care.
