Walk across Asia with me. Take me traveling. I want to go to Kokand in Ferghana Province to the place my mom was born. I want to go to every place shes been. I want to know how she lived in Uzbekistan and how she moved to Russia and Ukraine and Greece and all of the places in between. I want to know where Im from. Saying Im Greek is not enough for me. Knowing where my blood is from is not enough. I want to know the culture that has been picked up from Turkey and what exactly Pontus means. There is so much her side of the family has done in the past and there is so much culture theyve been surrounded by from every place theyve been. I want to know. I want to experience it. I dont want to fly in a plane or look at pictures. I want to go there and see for myself, but I dont want to go alone. Theyve had themselves when they lived there. I want to be with someone I love, too. Thats the closest Ill ever come to experiencing that lifestyle and the closest Ill come to understanding anything about my family.
