Walk with Giants by Dr Michael Colgan 31 July 2013 In my book, Quiet Mind: Journey of Joy (1) I explain that, in order to accomplish extraordinary things in life, you have to spend your time with extraordinary people. Controlled studies show that that lifestyles and emotions are infectious. Associate with people who lead world-class lives, and you unconsciously adopt their ways of thinking, feeling and doing. The research shows that: Your lifestyle comes to reflect the lifestyles of the people around you most. Your level of motivation become like that of the people in your social circle. Your success in achieving goals becomes the same level as that of your associates. Your income gradually becomes the average of the income of the 10 people you spend most time with. You gradually adopt the beliefs of those you associate with most. Your emotions mirror those of the people with whom you spend most time. You gradually adopt the level of happiness of your friends. First step is to clean house. Get rid of all associates, friends, and acquaintances that are toxic, limiting or upsetting. Ease needy, indolent, angry and melancholy people out of your life. Cease associating with ANYONE who is negative. Life is a wondrous journey of joy. Do not allow ANYONE to interfere with it. One simple way to approach the task is this gem from my friend, fitness guru Kathy Savage “Would you like this person to be in your lifeboat. If not, maybe it’s time to sail without them.”
