Walking Around . . . with visitors from the OTHER SIDE OF THE WORLD. Ming and Carmen have come from Hong Kong specifically to study the successful instructional practices of Vail’s teachers. We are the only school district they are visiting. Hong Kong’s system of education is often rated as one of the best in the world. We feel honored by their selective attention to Vail. Of course we are also taking advantage of their visit to learn from them. In these pictures Ming and Carmen are at Acacia Elementary studying classrooms and listening to comments from our staff. They will be visiting schools in Vail through Tuesday, November 4. The Ministry of Education, where Ming and Carmen work, serves the 7 million residents of Hong Kong with over 700 primary and secondary schools and a budget of over $70 Billion! They are awed by our open, campus style schools. In crowded Hong Kong, where real estate is at a premium, many of their schools occupy up to 7 floors in a high-rise building.
