Walter Ritz, born 22 February 1878 in Sion, died July 7, 1909 in Göttingen, is a Swiss physicist theoretical physics. Ritz studied at the Federal Institute of Technology Zurich and Göttingen, under the direction of David Hilbert and Woldemar Voigt. It is the latter that he shall, December 19, 1902, his thesis on Theory of spectra in series. In 1903 he went to Leyden to Hendrik Antoon Lorentz meet there, then in Bonn and finally to Paris, where he worked for some time with Aimé Cotton in the laboratories of the Ecole Normale Superieure.
