Want to know how to use Groupon style advertising without actually engaging them? Groupon has been GREAT for many business owners to generate new leads and first-time customers. But! The problem with Groupon style of marketing has been due to these reasons 1) Groupon attracts the WRONG type of clients- Discount Seekers and Bargain Hunters. These groups of people rarely buy at FULL PRICE again after being conditioned to look for discounts. 2) Groupon helps advertisers to get the first time customers, BUT doesnt help them to RETAIN the customers beyond the first sale. This the main gripe of overoptimistic advertisers. 3) Businesses know that Groupon or Coupon type of advertising can WORK LIKE CRAZY, but they just dont like the way Groupon or Deal.sg has been doing it. In fact, 2 of my clients has told me that they got a total combined of 4200 REDEMPTIONS on their deals recently. So there IS potential. The KEY is, in how to use the model, but tweak it to a better application. Whats the secret? The secret is to STOP selling COUPONS and DISCOUNTS only! People who buy based on discounts, will only want discounts. People who buy based on EXPERIENCE, will be better value customers long term because they focus on things OTHER than price. Is this making sense so far? So heres a tip 1) Create a Groupon-Style marketing campaign, but DO NOT delegate the task to groupon. Instead, run conventional FB ads to your coupon. 2) On the coupons itself, do not sell a mere DISCOUNT. Sell instead based on experiences. Think about it- Why do women buy a Chanel Bag for $4,000, when in actuality, the damn bag only costs a few hundred to manufacture? Its the experience and exclusivity. Why do people pay much more for a Rolls Royce when in fact, the added cost to build one doesnt justify the price tag, or anywhere near it? Its the experience again. So, on the coupons, dont sell the discount , only sell experience. For a restaurant, dont give 70% discount in your set meals etc. Instead, sell a coupon that allows the redeemer to have romantic dinner on a Friday night, which is followed by a class in chocolate tasting. For a Spa, dont sell CHEAP massage packages. Sell a massage experience followed by a 45 mins lesson from an award winning aromatherapy expert with a chance for photo-taking session after. If youre a tailor, selling clothes, dont sell cheap clothes. Sell suits, that comes with personalised in house branding photo taking to be used on their FB covers and Resumes. Get it yet? Dont sell based on price! Sell based on the DAMN experience. This ensures that the leads you attract, are of much higher-quality than the bloody discount seekers that Groupon attracts. This is what I mean by following Groupon model, but modifying it for a better application. P.S: The above is a basic strategy.
