War is clearly hell. What would bring peace to the middle east? Its pretty clear. All it would take is hamas ending their particular repeating insanity - that Israel must be attacked and destroyed - and peace would be achievable. Israel has been acting in its own defense all along, since the partition of the British Mandate into the Arab country Jordan and the Jewish country Israel by the UN in 1948. Israel has made and kept peace treaties with Jordan and Egypt. There are vast differences between the thinking, the intentions, of the Israeli leaders and people and the thinking and intentions of hamas and those who support hamas. The stark realities cant be ignored. They just cant. Theres no argument that the situation of the residents of gaza is miserable. But again, its decisions they have made and actions they have taken, mainly the refusal to accept the very existence of Israel and attempts to bring the idea of a middle east without a Jewish country, without Jews period, to reality, that has resulted in their present condition. As I write this, the radio tells me hamas has already violated the 72 hour humanitarian truce and used one of their damnable tunnels to kill Israeli soldiers and to kidnap one. There are also reports of missiles fired by hamas into Israel or that the soldier was taken in an attack on a border crossing, it is breaking news.
