Warmest Wishes for a wonderful holiday. Dear Friends of Animals, Spay-Neuter Services of Indiana (SNSI) facilitated a record-setting 10,000 surgeries in 2014 - more than 15% over 2013. These surgeries prevented tens of thousands of unwanted cats and dogs from ending up in shelters across Indiana, where they frequently lose their lives to euthanasia. SNSI knows that, given our extensive and growing network of vets and animal welfare partners across the state, we could do even more - if only funding were available to support it. More than 100 vets from every corner of Indiana stand ready to provide low-cost spay/neuters to qualifying recipients, and 150 animal welfare organizations are clamoring for additional SNSI surgery certificates for animals in their care.Demand for our services is higher than ever before. SNSI has its eye on the prize - to prevent overpopulation and the euthanasia of unwanted animals. We look to model programs in other cities and states where strategic spay/neuter initiatives mean thatno adoptable animals are euthanized in shelters. ZERO! Indiana can get to zero, too, with your help. Our part? We provide discounted surgeries to limited-income pet owners and free surgeries to rescue groups and shelters. Statistics show that access to low cost spay/neuter services results in lowered euthanasia rates. Your part? You can help Hoosier animals by making a donation of any amount. Wont you support us today and share in our success? We cant do it without you. Spay/neuter is the answer to preventing overpopulation, stopping euthanasia and finding forever homes for all pets. Indiana will eventually get to zero. We need your help. Cheri Storms President, Spay-Neuter Services of Indiana, Inc. Donate Now A Dog Named Jack A familiar story for many animal rescue organizations across Indiana -- a late afternoon call for help with a mama dog and her litter of puppies, running loose, without food or water. But, this Yorktown story takes a unique and horrifying turn. As Animal Rescue Fund (ARF) volunteers arrived to find the dogs by flashlight, they noticed one puppy was tied to the nearby railroad tracks. As they struggled to release this pup from what could have been his tragic end, a train rumbled by on the adjacent set of tracks. A near miss! The volunteers did save the life of this little guy, who would later be called Jack. ARF founder, Terri Panzi knew that Jacks traumatic beginning would make finding a forever home challenging. Jack was simply afraid of almost everything and everyone. But Terri couldnt turn her back on him. So when Jack and his littermates contracted Parvo, ARF gave them the necessary (but expensive) treatment. Jack languished for years in a no-kill animal sanctuary, passed over by adoptive families time and time again. But one shelter volunteer continued to grow more and more fond of Jack. And, in time, that volunteer would give Jack his forever home. After spending so much of our limited dollars on care and treatment, we are grateful that SNSI is here to help us fix animals like Jack, said Panzi. It allows us to assist even more animals and save more lives. Copyright © 2014. All Rights Reserved.
