*Warning - very long drawn out Christmas message* Well another big day behind us and was it worth all that fuss? Well my answer is a definite YES! see my very close friend Eve (who seemingly found herself a geopolitical voice since returning from travelling the world) said something early this month with resonated with me - pretty much in every Christmas related breath I took. She very plainly stated that christmas was basically a capitalist tool to rinse us of our hard earned cash for an engineered annual saviours day where the giving of increasingly expensive and flamboyant gifts was annoyingly rife and the whole Christmas day thing was a bit of a sham. Now, Im currently reading Russel Brands book revolution and not wanting to be another cog in the capitalist machine i heeded her words and Gave this plenty of thought and what i realised is this. If Christmas is a sham - shams-rock! If I had to work all year just to have 1 day like today then I would. Now today wasnt by any means the planned event I wanted it to be, I got a god awful watch (sorry Mand x) my baby was very poorly with fever and this dreaded lurgy and I never got round to see my nieces and nephews (sorry Jenny - hopefully see you tomorrow x) but today, albeit the build-up was expensive and stressful, was perfect. Amanda made a triumphant meal, the table looked great - Elliot got more presents than he knows what to do with and all my close family and friends got their gifts and with a jolly round belly this evening I gloated over my Christmas Day with a sense of pride akin to Mr clause himself. It was in this contentment I realised that my friends Eves christmas dogma may be correct in some sense of the word, but it just doesnt work for me! Cos I love Christmas! I love Christmas songs, i love Christmas films! I love Christmas hats and jumpers, I love tinsel (sorry Amy Hutchinson) I even love Christmas traffic! So although this was a exceedingly long way of saying it..... Merry Christmas everyone and I hope you have a happy and peaceful new year xx
