Warning: Anecdotal Evidence. So, Ive spent quite a while in England, or at leat long enough to question the views of some of our fellow Scots. I study in Lancashire, where people are very supportive of the independence movement in general, and are constantly begging that we take them with us. (Id gladly oblige) Ive also spent the past two weeks staying in the Borough of Fareham, about as southern and conservative as you get in the UK, with my girlfriend. Having met a lot of these southern, conservative types, who immediately asked me about independence since theyd never seen someone north of Chester. They were all very accepting of the political motives for independence, and although they werent sure if the economic prospects were better, agreed with me that, in any case, the political positives outweighed the economic ones. Up here, especially in my hometown, Edinburgh, there are many people who believe that independence is some romanticised, anti-english, uneducated dream. So, the English are happy to see us going for independence, whats wrong up North?
