Warning!!!! Wall of text ahead. Just for fun little experiment . . . I went to the Healcare.GOV website to see what itll cost me to get insured through the Affordable Care Act aka Obamacare. The Input: 35 years old living in Florida, guesstimate about 500 per month income from part-time job delivering pizza (BTW: Thanks for that Obama), smoker, Platinum coverage with deductibles I can actually afford. The results: ONLY 1 PPO plan available Estimated maximum out-of-pocket expenses: $2000 (Ouch) Estimated deductible: 0 (Now thats truly affordable) Estimated monthly cost: $535 (More $$$ than I make in a month) Conclusion: I spend my entire paycheck and borrow $420 per year to be prepared to pay another 4 months of wages if I do get sick enough to go to the doctor. Okay. Lets try something that has an affordable monthly cost New Input: Same input from last time except lets see if theres a plan that will take less than half of my paycheck each month. New results: ONLY 1 HMO plan available that isnt classified as CATASTROPHIC coverage. Estimated monthly cost: $247 (Just under half my paycheck each month) Estimated deductible: $6275 (Over a years worth wages) Estimated maximum out-of-pocket expenses: $6400 (Really?!?!?) New Conclusion: I pay almost half of my paycheck so that if I do get sick, I get to work entirely to pay for the costs of getting sick and borrow the extra. Getting sick is entirely unrealistic or Ill go bankrupt. Good luck getting paid back if I ever get sick. Remember that Im now bankrupt. It seems that the ONLY way to actually afford this Care Act is to be completely dependent on the state. I cant work or make any sort of sensible income or I cant afford the *government mandated* insurance. The only other way to afford this forced insurance, thereby remaining compliant with the law, is to get the money through illegal means (a paradoxical solution). There seems to be two ways to look at this dilemma. Either this is completely broken system Im being force fed a load of garbage, or I obviously need more government involvement in my available choices. You tell me which outlook seems more logical?
