**Warning, graphic images!** This is Ruby, she is a year old. Back in August she was hit by a car while on a walk. She had a severe de-gloving injury on her back leg and side – this is a “pulling” injury of the skin. She was lucky despite this as there was no internal injuries at all. She was hospitalised with us for a few days on heavy-duty pain killers and underwent a very long surgery to repair the damage to her skin (see the first wound photo). Unfortunately due to infection and the huge amount of damage sustained, her wound broke down a few days after the surgery. She was hospitalised again and had the dead tissue removed and numerous fancy dressings from our vets and nurses placed to help keep the wound clean and start the repair process. Eventually, in September, once the infection had cleared and the tissue was healthier, Ruby had further surgery with our vet Katherine to move skin from her tummy around to cover the missing skin on the outside of her leg and her thigh. She also had skin grafts to cover the inside of her leg. After yet more dressings we were concerned about the site of the grafts and wondered if we may have to remove her leg, as by this point there was no more skin we could move to the area where it was missing. Luckily, Ruby bounced back and her body began to heal itself. It took 2 and a half months from accident to healing, but now she is fighting fit and back to her previous healthy self! You can see the gradual healing of the wounds after they had deteriorated in our photos. Also shown is Ruby during her stay with us and in her garden at home! Ruby’s owner has pet insurance which covered the majority of her treatment. We wish Ruby and her owner all the best for the future, she was an absolutely lovely patient!
