Was just thinking today that if you deliberately wanted to create a drug to subdue and suppress a large group of people over a prolonged period of time the vital characteristics of the drug would have to be (1) creates apathy and disinterest in the users (2) leads to depression (3) leaves the user feeling physically drained and lethargic. If you could come up with something like this, then make it available really cheaply and market the shit out of it, its quite likely many would take it every day. If so inclined you could probably keep a lot of the more challenging and uppity sorts in society preoccupied more easily using a drug like this, it would definitely reduce the amount of them prepared to get off their posteriors and speak out about injustices in the society. The government and their ilk globally should look into it, would definitely come in handy. Although in fairness wed have to be pretty thick to willingly take this shit on a regular basis wouldnt we? I cant see it happening personally.
