Was up at 5 this morning getting ready for a small operation at Crosshouse Hospital day surgery. I always get anxious about going into hospital as I have had a terrible time with major spinal surgery at the Victoria Hospital in Glasgow and lost all faith in the NHS. However from the moment I walked in the door, I was treated like a King. The nurses were lovely and should me genuine care and empathy. One lady in particular was outstanding as she got me a really comfy electric bed to lie on and gave me some pain relief for my severe spinal pain. A little touch on the shoulder , a big smile and a real genuine bed side manner all helped to put me at ease. I then met the Anaestetist Wrong spelling. Really nice lady who put me at complete ease. And finally the Consultant a Mr Felsenstein. I liked him a no nonsense man who got straight to the point. I really liked the way he explained everything to me. He told me that they would take good care of me as I have a spine that is like a terminator half man half machine. Anyway they wheeled me into the operating theatre and I had about 10 people around me. They were playing Lady Gaga and asked me if the music was ok. I said yea thats fine but I am a Bowie fan and would have preffered The rise and fall of ziggy stardust. And at that in went the sleeping juice and I went of to another time and space. In the blink of an eye I was in recovery and had the best sleep I have had in years. Again the lovely nurses treated me like Royalty and gave me two slice of toast with saleted butter and a great cup of coffee. All I can say is they were superb and so very profesional. Top marks. In a few weeks time I am back in again to have some injections into my spinal canal as my pain levels are just so mind bending at the moment. Again The Pain Doctor Dr Devine will take good care of me and she has a great bed side manner. If anyone wants to know about major spinal surgery and pain relief and how to stay sane then talk to me. And yes I know my spelling sucks but this Dell laptop is going crazy and they keyboard is duff.
