Was waiting at the hospital waiting lounge in PH, reading Daily sun newspaper when a young doctor excused me to see the headline on Buhari and the following conversation ensued. Doctor : What do think of Buharis Chances next year? Me: Brighter than 2011, with his disciplined and vigorously pan Nigerian campaign. Doctor : I agree with you. So who will you vote between him and Jonathan? Me: Undecided yet. Doctor: Why? It is weeks to the election and you are still Undecided? Me: Yes, because Jonathan is not an option for any sane person and Buhari is yet to really convince me on what he will do better except perhaps his promise on corruption which seems very difficult given his current political associates and allies. Doctor : My brother, Buhari is the answer to Nigerian biggest problem and that is corruption. Dont worry how he will do it. Nobody can control him unlike Jonathan. I will vote him and I urge you to vote him. Me: But I dont think corruption is Nigerian biggest problem. I think Weak national foundation is. The critical question now is whether Nigeria is strong enough to sustain the pressure that the two controversial aspirants will put on her? And at what human cost? And if the answer is in the positive, and at no human cost, will Nigeria structure largely built and sustained by negative, controversial and sometimes unfair compromises allow the type of magical reform and anti corruption stance you expect from Buhari? Doctor : My brother, you have a point but anybody is better than Jonathan. Me: You have a point on that too. But having grown up in the East and lived in the far north for years, I am expecting a strong reformer and not necessarily a messiah. Doctor : (Leaving to attend his waiting patients...).... Forget grammar my brother. Sai Buhari. ******** ******** Interesting weeks ahead. Cant wait.
