Was walking home from downtown Monday and passed a couple speaking French. I said Bienvenue, but learned as we conversed that they were Aussies. He was born French, and combining both his past and present homes had a distinct disdain for the U.S. He spoke of the BRICS conference as an alliance between Russia, China, Brasil et al that is ready to challenge the dominance of the World Bank and introduce a currency to replace the collapsing dollar in world markets. He also defended the Australian immigration policy that intercepts asylum seekers and forces them to camps on neighboring islands and Papua New Guinea. He charged the policy is to stop Muslims from taking over the country. When I challenged that premise, he contended there have been news reports of Australian Muslims going to fight is Syria. Of course, Rupert Murdoch controls the Aussie media. As we part ways, I readily accepted the fact we will never meet again...
