Washington State writers and readers -- would you like to nominate a book to be considered for loading in a unique, archival Kindle Paperwhite that will be included in the 2014 update box that will be placed in the Washington State Centennial Time Capsule? See the guidelines below. *The book must have been published by a traditional publishing house or small press. No self-published titles will be included. *The author must have lived and worked in Washington State at some point during the period from 1989-2014 AND the book was also published between 1989 and 2014. *Or, the book is about Washington State and was published between 1989 and 2014. * Only one book per author will be included. *We will need to be provided with a DRM-free compact PDF or Kindle/Mobi file of the book by October 10, 2014. If you are the author or publisher, Ill get back in touch with you to see about getting the e-text. We are not able to convert books to e-text, the author or publisher will have to provide the file. Concerned about copyright? These files will be sent to me (Greg Bear) alone, and I will store them on a hard drive and not spread them to any other people. Once the files are on the hard drive, the relevant emails and attached files will be deleted. The hard drive (which may be backed up for safety purposes, but only by me) will be delivered to Amazon headquarters for loading onto the archival Kindle, after which the hard drive(s) will be erased. The Kindle will have its battery removed, and will be placed in the capsule, whereupon the capsule will be flooded with argon in a controlled environment and welded shut. The capsule will not be opened again for 375 years, by which time, copyright will likely not be an issue.
