Watch! “What I say to you I say to all,” Jesus tells - TopicsExpress

Watch! “What I say to you I say to all,” Jesus tells his disciples at Mark 13:37, “Watch!” It’s an instruction he repeats a number of times, as recorded in all four traditional gospels. Watch what? It’s generally assumed he means that we should watch for signs of imminent upheaval in the world around us. But given the spiritual power Jesus calls all of us to recognize as our true identity, we can hardly express that power by simply being reactive to events as they unfold. Much more is expected of us, and Jesus has been clear throughout his ministry that our proper focus should be inward. I’ve recently come across a quotation that may be familiar to many of you, but was new to me. Its author is unknown, although it is sometimes attributed to someone named Frank Outlaw. Others are certain that Emerson must have said it, and it bears a strong resemblance to statements attributed to the Buddha. Since its source is unknown, I’ve felt no compunction in changing it slightly. This is my version: Watch your thoughts, they become your words. Watch your words, they become your choices. Watch your choices, they become your habits. Watch your habits, they become your faith. Watch your faith, it creates your life. This is, I think, a perfect statement of the creative process that is our entire purpose for entering this human experience. Whatever happens in the outer will depend on the creative faith we bring to it. Jesus and Buddha and every great teacher urges us to new dimensions of self-awareness. Our thoughts become words, and our words become creative choices. Those choices begin to string together into habits according to what we believe—about ourselves, about our Source, about our spiritual Truth. And it is that faith that comes into expression as our individual and collective life experience. Today, from the perspective of a heart filled with divine love, I carefully watch my thoughts, my words, my choices and my habits. I feel within me the gentle power to make any changes necessary—new words, new thoughts, new choices—to make this day more purely expressive of my spiritual power and purpose. Thank you, God!
