Watch and Act Issued For: Goongerah Fire Origin: 5 K SW OF GOONGERAH Incident Name: GOONGERAH-JOYS CREEK Issued: 17/01/14 8:57 PM This is a Watch and Act message issued by Department of Environment and Primary Industries for Goongerah. There is a large bushfire to the west of the Goongerah community. The bushfire is one of 7 bushfires burning nearby. Fire behavior is expected to increase with the wind change predicted for the early hours of the morning. Dont wait, leaving now is the safest option - conditions may change and get worse very quickly. Emergency Services may not be able to help you if you decide to stay. Travel to; - The Relief Centre at Orbost Secondary College, Orbost. - The home of family or friends that is away from the warning area. When driving, slow down and turn on your headlights; smoke will make it difficult to see. The Bonang Road is closed due to fire activity. Departing Goongerah residents will not be able to return until the road reopens. The Princes Highway is closed by fire activity between Orbost and Cann River. The Snowy River National Park and Errinundra National Park is closed due to fire activity. The next update is expected by 18/01/14 9:00 AM or as the situation changes. Safety Information: Remember to take your prescriptions and medication, photo ID, bottles of water, your mobile phone and charger and consider what you will do with your pets. If you have time, check your neighbours to see if they are monitoring conditions. Contact a family member or friend to tell them what you plan to do. Stay Informed: Via depi.vic.gov.au.
