Watch and Act Issued For: Grampians Junction, Halls Gap Fire Origin: 18KM SOUTH WEST OF DADSWELLS BRIDGE Incident Name: Issued: 18/01/14 8:19 PM This is an Updated Watch and Act message issue by Country Fire Authority for Grampians Junction, Halls Gap. The fire in the Northern end of the Grampians National Park is approximately 51,800 hectares in size. The fire is west of Halls Gap in the Mount Difficult Range. The fire is not yet under control and a spot fire is burning in the Silverbands Falls area. Fire activity remains in the Northern end of the Grampians National Park, but the main threat to Halls Gap and Grampians Junction has now passed. Firefighters are conducting back burning operations at the Southern end of the Mt Difficult Range from 4pm this afternoon and into the evening to consolidate the Southern edge of the fire. Emergency services vehicles and crews will be working in the area and smoke will be visible in the area. Please take care when travelling in the area due to possible falling trees and injured wildlife. The Grampians National Park remains closed until noon Monday January 20 2014. Road situation as at 5.00pm Saturday January 18 2014. Grampians Road and Western Highway to Stawell is open to traffic. The Western Highway is still closed between the intersection of the Stawell-Warracknabeal Road and Horsham. It is expected this section of the Western Highway will open later today (Saturday), pending advice from Victoria Police. Grampians Tourist Road and Silverband Road within the Grampians National park, next to Lake Bellfield is closed to general traffic. Emergency Services vehicles can access this area. Pomonal Road and Burgh Street, Stawell are open to traffic. Halls Gap and Pomonal townships are open for residents only, to return to their homes. Travellers are advised to continue to check the VicRoads website or call 13 11 70 for up to date information. Continue to stay informed and monitor conditions. A Relief Centre is operating from Horsham Senior Citizens Centre, Roberts Avenue. A Relief Centre is operating from Stawell Leisure Centre, 49-51 Houston Street, Stawell. Community meetings are being organised for Sunday 19/01/2014 and information will be provided shortly. The next update is expected by 19/01/14 10:00 AM or as the situation changes. Safety information: Remember to take your prescriptions and medication, photo ID, bottles of water, your mobile phone and charger and consider what you will do with your pets. When driving, slow down and turn on your headlights; smoke will make it difficult to see. If you have time, check your neighbours to see if they are monitoring conditions.
