(Watch in HD) At midnight, 22nd Oct, I went on a spontaneous trip to climb Blencathra with Jago Miller Productions. I left my house just after 00:00am, and returned at 7:00am. (I then went to my University lecture at 9:00am) The plan was to climb the mountain and grab some Star trails and/or time-lapse footage. The climb was frankly hilarious, as we had forgotten that there was a hurricane hitting the UK... Having been blown off my feet twice (literally), we decided that it would just be too dangerous to push on to the summit; So we took refuge by the side of Scales Tarn, underneath Sharp Edge. After a quick brainstorm, and a handful of sweets, we decided to push up one of the ridges leading to Sharp Edge, overlooking Penrith and the A66. We set up our cameras and hunkered down in a small indent in the side of the ridge. As the hurricane winds came in the temperature dropped immensely, and including wind chill, easily fell below 0 degrees. We waited for and Icy Hour and 40 Minutes, as our cameras snapped away: Jago, tucked up in his lovely mountain gear, And me... Clenched in the foetal position, using his dog as a blanket. The view was absolutely incredible, with intermittent clouds resulting in a nice sequence of shots. I saw more shooting stars than Ive ever seen before, quite possibly from the Orionid Meteor Shower; I also saw the most beautiful, detailed view of Orion, my favourite constellation. Ive never done a time-lapse of stars before, but have experimented with the technique a handful of times over the summer. Im incredibly proud of what Ive captured, and cant wait to get out and try some more. Ive just grabbed myself a new Lens, which should be arriving within the week, which Ill use primarily for my night photography. (All hail Gumtree) Im also very impressed with my camera, as Ive expanded my experimentations with the ISO settings and Im incredibly pleased with the results. The shots were taken at ISO 1600, which is something I wouldnt have dreamed of attempting 1 month ago. All in all, this was an absolutely fantastic night; And one that I wont be forgetting any time soon. Matt Pycroft, you were right ;) Thanks guys, Hope you enjoy!
