Watched Costa Gavrass Z over the weekend, what struck me the most was the way our own Dibakar Banerji managed to subvert the plot to vilify the poor in his adaptation Shanghai. Time and again it is proved that Indian film makers appease the middle class vilifying the poor (is it because most of the artists are from middle class?). One more example to this is Ship of Thesius where a rich Swedish man is shown weeping, repenting seeking audience sympathy but the poor man who has lost his kidney is shown as selfish man whose welfare is bestowed upon a middle class revolutionary.
