Watched a clip last night where Bruce Springsteen described the the way records affected him growing up. Records were a big deal and the immediacy and power were obvious. I used to go to the record store to get a record and would play it over and over again, until it was burned into my brain. Later, when I got into folk music, blues and Country music, I spent hours researching artists and songs to discover.Poring over liner notes and magazines to find out who played guitar on this or that and looking things up in the Schwann catalog. In the pre Amazon world, journeys to NYC to go to. King Karol or Colony records. were like safaris.my attitudes havent changed much. The tools have, now it is YouTube,Wikipedia,allmusic...instead of waiting weeks, I can down load almost anything instantly. for society, technology has affected the role of music in a big way. Supply and demand, competition with gaming, social media and more.... The point? none in particular. For me it is still to paraphrase Bruce, still all about putting it all into the three minute and during those three minutes all that matters is now and all that exists is the song.
