Watched most of the Arturo Gotti- Micky Ward trilogy on HBO early this morning, wow! That first fight was ridiculously ferocious! Anyone who doesnt think Boxing is as it used to be, needs to take a good hard look at this .....it was between 2001-2003 the 3 fights, with Gotti-Ward 1 and the 2nd fight only 6 months apart......The last one took more haggling between the promotors...as it would be Mickeys last fight.....Gotti won the final 2 bouts, as Ali did vs Frazier but these fights were soo great! with Ward having to go MOST of the 2nd fight w/ a punctured eardrum, from the Knockdown left to his ear in the 3rd round, without his equilibrium, he still manages to stay on his feet, and lost a unanimous decision. The 3rd fight, was GREAT as well...this time, Gotti appears to have broken his right hand on an awkward shot that hits Wards left hip, his wrist bending back to far.....BUT even still, fighting the rest of that round, over 2 min with only his left hand, Gotti stays up, survives a knockdown and went on to win the 3rd fight as well.....sadly, Gotti dies in 2009 in Brazil, in very conspicuous circumstances. He was ONLY 37, married a Native Brazilian woman, and there was obviously trouble in that relationship, Arturo bein Arturo, a BIG party guy, his wife seeing to have him ONLY as her trophy, and his $$$ which seemed to have been willed oddly before he died, (changed) and everything, $$ the woiks, going to Her.....At first she is charged w/ murdering her husband but soon after, is exonerated after a quick sub committee rules Gottis death a suicide.....Wow! The boxing magnates, all contributed to this film, Jim Lampley in particular is quoted several times and each time he gets more and more emotional that by his last one, tears are flowing down his face, ditto old Larry Merchant, the 2 referees, who worked the 3 fights, and all......Ward, from Lowell Mass had a film out about him (played by Mark Wahlberg) I think is how you spell it and another fine actor who plays Mickeys drug addicted brother, Dicky ...the guy who played him was ....hum, a great performer, he was in one of those Batman films.....sorry I cant remember the name of the film or his name.......I highly recommend this special......Boxing, is not dead! I watched that Mongolian assassin beat up on Garcia was it? Last night as well, pardon me, I have been comin out of anesthesia slowlythe past 30 some hours.......sleeping long time then up just as long, feeling much more like myself today, finally, and yes, I can talk today! Allright! even 2 days no talking is hard, and very frustrating, ask Randall! Eddie....
