Watched the Miniseries OLIVE KITTERIDGE on HBO. Knowing nothing - TopicsExpress

Watched the Miniseries OLIVE KITTERIDGE on HBO. Knowing nothing about it except the cast. (which was enough for me). Not sure how to review this. The acting is phenomenal. It was 4 hours and each hour felt so different. Its a realistic portrait of a flawed woman but you never quite understand her. (just like real people sometimes) Frances McDormand and Richard Jenkins are incredible (of course) - its one of those uncomfortable marriages but you never understand what he sees in her. The first hour was so bleak I almost stopped watching, the second was kinda magical and funny, the third was suprising and the 4th was interesting. It reminded me of plays at the Steppenwolf Theatre Company - where you see great acting and the plays have characters or scenes you know are awesome for the actors but you watch it thinking is anyone thinking of the audience???. Bill Murray gives a sad but perfect performance of a man dealing with loss. There are strange themes of snakes and dead pets hit by cars which I could have done without. An odd greek chorus of some woman singing cabaret songs which was amusing but puzzling. I cant say I recommend it unless you just love Frances McDormand and want to see her work. the actors have zero ego here - they look old. Everyone else is also good in this. Especially John Gallagher Jr (The Newsroom), Cory Michael Smith and Zoe Kazan https://youtube/watch?v=ZTHtPIilE6c
