Watching the Grammys reinforces and gives more clarity to my longstanding realization that its not about the music, its about the show. There seems to be a focus on putting together a history-making show, which brings out 1)hordes of sub-talented performers, 2)hordes of uber-talented performers who should know better than to allow themselves to be paired with the aforementioned sub-talented, and 3)someone is bound to do something crazy, offensive, or otherwise disrespectful to make headlines, probably Kanye or someone like that. Its kind of sad, because we dont pay a lot attention to our other senses and prefer to just see a spectacle that appeases our lust for shock value rather than feed our hunger for aesthetic and check out something different, like the artists who will be winning grammies for other genres of music than what the establishment pushes down our throats. The worst part will be having to play Get Lucky for another year because they won a grammy with that POS. You can be positive that I wont be forced to play Wayne Shorter tunes because he was nominated (and will hopefully win) a grammy. 90% of people wont even know that he was nominated, or probably even who he is. Why? Because its far easier to market a no-talent actors kid who has no morals and lacks the talent to understand artist development than it is to market a groundbreaking modern composer.
