Watching the news tonight and there was a lady who was raped over - TopicsExpress

Watching the news tonight and there was a lady who was raped over twenty years ago, at the time of the rape she told her boyfriend and he along with a friend beat the rapist to death. Now if this is what happened then I personally think karma bit the guy in his rear. The lady who is now a PhD professor in psychology never told anyone, by law (I think) this makes her an accomplice at the very least. Moving fwd to modern times... Law enforcement reopens the case and she cooperates with police who extradite her from Switzerland where she is teaching. Prosecutors offer her a deal that if she pleads guilty to second degree manslaughter she will only serve three years. Sounds reasonable to me! She refuses and gets charged with FIRST DEGREE MURDER. I know my story is drawn out but it was necessary in order to understand this one question. How does the prosecution make such a radical transition from secondary manslaughter for three years to first degree murder with a possible life sentence??? Not saying she should get off Scott free but I cant understand such a radical shift. To offer basically a slap on the wrist to life??? Can any of my wiser than me friends please explain this?
